About Inigo Jones Slate Works

Inigo Jones Slate Works was founded in 1861 primarily to produce school writing slates. Today the company uses the same raw material, namely 500 million year old Welsh slate, to produce architectural, memorial, landscape and craft products. The majority of the products are made to order, but the company also produces a large range of standard slate craft products that it displays and sells in its quality showroom. The on-site showroom also has a wide variety of Welsh craft and Celtic products for sale.

Items made to order include architectural products such as cills, tops, steps, flooring and hearths. Memorial products include headstones, vases and cremation plaques. Landscape products include chippings, bird baths, sundials and water features. Plaques, nameplates and trophies can also be engraved to order.

By popular demand the company now has a self-guided tour of the slate works where there is an opportunity to see the various machinery that is used to prefabricate the natural slate. There are also geological, historical, calligraphy and letter cutting exhibitions. There is an opportunity to have a go at engraving on a piece of slate that one gets to keep as a souvenir of your visit. There is also a children's quiz with a slate prize.

The company also has a cafe on site - the Welsh Rock Cafe - which gives the history of music in Wales. The cafe serves meals and light snacks all day. Lon Eifion - a cycle track - runs adjacent to the works and this runs all the way from Caernarfon to Criccieth and is off-road, so it's safe and family friendly. Bikes can be hired from Caernarfon and Inigo Jones Slate Works is less than 6 miles from Caernarfon.

Plenty of free parking on site as well as facilities for the disabled.
